A Real Sociedad supporter has been arrested by Spain’s Guardia Civil in Gipuzkoa for reckless driving after three vans attempted to force a motorhome carrying Atlético Madrid fans off the road on the A-66 near Almendralejo (Badajoz) last Sunday, the day after the Copa del Rey final.

The arrested man, a 31-year-old resident of Lazkao (Gipuzkoa), was taken into custody following the circulation of a video on social media showing three black vans cornering a moving motorhome, according to Guardia Civil sources confirmed to EFE.

At the time of the incident, the four vehicles were returning from Seville, where the previous day’s Copa del Rey final between Real Sociedad—the title winners—and Atlético Madrid had taken place.

In a statement, the Guardia Civil said the man was arrested in San Sebastián as a suspected perpetrator of a crime against road safety for reckless driving. The suspect allegedly engaged in “an episode of road violence against the vehicle carrying Atlético Madrid fans returning from the match.”

Specifically, the driver reportedly executed intimidating maneuvers, forcing the victims to reduce speed due to an “imminent risk of collision, also endangering the safety of other occupants” of his van.

The same source noted that the incident was recorded in images taken by another fan, which went viral on social media. The footage highlighted the severity of the driver’s actions and allowed the GIAT (Traffic Accident Investigation Group) of the Extremadura Traffic Unit to identify the vehicle.

Authorities also requested cooperation from the Gipuzkoa Command, and the arrest was carried out by officers of the Judicial Police of Gipuzkoa in San Sebastián, the source added.
