SoftBank Hawks pitcher Liván Moinelo (30) is set to make his first game appearance since returning to Japan, taking part in a third-team game against the Shikoku Island League on May 14.
The left-hander has been working his way back to full fitness after returning from overseas duty, and the coaching staff views this outing as a key step in his return to the first team. Pitching coach Shinji Kurano explained that the priority is to “confirm his current condition” and evaluate where Moinelo stands in his recovery process.
Moinelo, a key reliever for the Hawks and a member of Cuba’s WBC roster, has been building up gradually in practice. The third-team game will provide a controlled environment to test his command, velocity, and durability. Coach Kurano noted that the team has a clear plan for his progression, and if all goes well, Moinelo could be ready for first-team action in the near future.
The Hawks are hopeful that Moinelo’s return will bolster their bullpen as the season progresses. This first live outing will be crucial in determining his readiness for higher-level competition.
