Barcelona has issued a statement on social media platform X, expressing heartfelt condolences to head coach Hansi Flick following the passing of his father.
“FC Barcelona and the entire Barça family send our deepest condolences to Hansi Flick on the loss of his father. We share in his sorrow and offer our full support during this difficult time,” the club wrote.
The cause of death for Hans Flick Sr. has not been disclosed. According to Spanish outlet Sport.es, the German coach informed his players of the tragedy in the dressing room on the morning of their match against Real Madrid.
Despite the personal loss, Flick is expected to lead the team from the bench during Sunday’s La Liga clash, a crucial 35th-round encounter between Barcelona and Real Madrid at Camp Nou. The match is set to kick off at 22:00 Moscow time.
Flick, 61, took charge of Barcelona in 2024. Under his leadership, the Catalan giants have clinched the La Liga title, the Copa del Rey, and two Spanish Super Cups, establishing a dominant run in domestic football.
