Ousmane Dembélé is a discreet figure. The French star rarely reveals details about his private life or his inner circle. On the pitch, he appears calm, speaks little, and tries to stay under the radar. That’s why his recent Instagram post shocked everyone after qualifying for the Champions League final. The forward unexpectedly shared a statement Gavi made some time ago, addressing those who claimed the midfielder only stood out for his grit and effort on the field.
“Many people think I don’t know how to play football, but they have no clue. It’s the truth, but it’s understandable. In the end, it’s football, and everyone thinks what they want,” the Barcelona midfielder had said.
This Sunday, a week after that, Barça were crowned La Liga champions against Real Madrid at the Camp Nou, an idyllic setting that fueled the festive atmosphere among the Blaugrana squad. Gavi, along with many other players from Hansi Flick’s squad, spoke to the Movistar Plus+ microphone and, among other interesting topics, discussed his relationship with Ousmane Dembélé.
The Andalusian was asked about Ousmane’s earlier post and did not hesitate to publicly express his affection: “Ousmane is my brother. He’s more than a friend, we talk all the time, and I’m very happy for him. He’s the best in the world alongside Lamine Yamal!”
Dembélé and Gavi played 59 games together during their time at Barça, sharing 2,709 minutes on the pitch. Countless daily anecdotes helped them build a friendship that remains strong today, despite the distance between Barcelona and Paris.
