In Game 4 of the second round, the Los Angeles Lakers fell 115-110 to the Oklahoma City Thunder, resulting in a 0-4 sweep and an early playoff exit. Despite a valiant effort and staying competitive until the very end, the Lakers could not match the Thunder’s clutch execution in critical moments.
Two players delivered standout performances. Jaxson Hayes exceeded expectations, scoring efficiently whenever he received the ball, finishing with 18 points on 8-of-10 shooting. Rui Hachimura kept the Lakers alive in the closing minutes, consistently scoring while his teammates struggled, and ended with 25 points on 9-of-15 shooting.
Austin Reaves, LeBron James, and Marcus Smart had average outings. Reaves struggled with ball handling, committing eight turnovers, but still managed 27 points on 8-of-16 shooting. James showed fatigue in the fourth quarter, which diminished his impact on both ends, though he still posted 24 points and 12 rebounds. Smart played well late in the game with strong drives and defensive steals, but his shooting was poor in the first three quarters and he had some turnovers; still, his defensive presence was solid, and he was the only starter with a positive plus-minus.
Luke Kennard, Deandre Ayton, Cam Reddish, and Jarred Vanderbilt were below par. Kennard’s offensive output was too conservative, scoring just five points on 2-of-5 shooting. Ayton showed no presence in the paint, playing soft on both ends and finishing with only six points while failing to impact rebounding or defense. Reddish lost his earlier spark and contributed nothing on either end. Vanderbilt was a non-factor offensively, essentially creating a 4-on-5 situation that hurt the team’s flow.
